J&K records 557 new COVID-19 cases, two deaths

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday logged 557 fresh COVID-19 cases and two fatalities, pushing the cumulative infections tally in the Union territory to 4,59,544 and the death toll to 4,763, officials said.

Of the fresh cases, 282 were reported from Jammu division and the rest from the Kashmir Valley, they said, adding that of the two fresh fatalities, one each was reported from Kashmir and Jammu divisions.

Providing district-wise breakup for these positive cases, officials informed  that Jammu district reported 169 cases,  Srinagar reported 157 cases, Baramulla reported 42 cases, Kathua reported 30 cases, Udhampur reported 23 cases,  Kupwara reported 22 cases, Rajouri reported 15 cases, Doda and Budgam reported 13 cases each, Ganderbal, Bandipora and Poonch reported 11 cases each, Anantnag reported 10 cases, Ramban reported nine cases, Kishtwar, Samba and Kulgam reported six cases each, and Pulwama reported three cases.

Currently there are 2,801 active cases of the disease in Jammu and Kashmir, including 1,547 in Jammu division and 1,254 in Kashmir, and the number of recoveries has reached 4,51,980, the officials said. This also includes 165 people, including 83 from Jammu division and 82 from Kashmir division, who were discharged from various hospitals in the last 24 hours after their recuperation.

So far 4,763 have died of the viral disease – 2,426 in Kashmir division and 2,337 in Jammu division.
