Police intensifies market checking ahead of Eid-ul-Adha

Srinagar: In order to keep a check on overpricing, profiteering and black marketing ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, Police have intensified market checking in Budgam and Kulgam districts to ensure all essential commodities are sold at Government approved rates as per the quality standards with sufficient availability of consumables.

“In Budgam, market checking was conducted throughout the district in all the main markets. The checking squads led by Tehsildar Budgam Shri Imtiyaz Ahmed Budoo, Food Inspector Budgam, NT Khansahib, TSO Khansahib, NT Magam, NT Narbal, NT Waterihail, NT Kralnewa, NT Natipora along with police parties of respective jurisdictions carried out the market checking in respective areas,” said a police spokesperson.

“Similarly, in Kulgam, team of officers from Revenue, Police, Food Safety, SMC, FCS&CA and Legal Metrology intensified the drive of market checking across the district. The teams conducted checking of various establishments including meat shops, poultry, vegetable shops, bakery and other essentials in all the markets of the district. Furthermore, SSP Kulgam appealed the concerned authorities to ensure that the government-approved rates for sacrificial animals are implemented in letter and spirit without any deviations so that people do not get fleeced,” the spokesperson said.

“The checking officers directed the shopkeepers to keep government-approved rate lists displayed in their shops and warned strict action against erring shopkeepers for violating the Food Safety and Standard Rules,” he said.

“It was reiterated that such inspections would be conducted on a regular basis and warned the traders of stern action if they are found indulging in profiteering,” he added.
