Eight Yatris die in Baltal cloud burst: Police

Srinagar: At least eight yatris have died after a cloud burst hit Baltal area in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, a police spokesman said.

“The rescue operation is still going on and the injured persons have been airlifted for the treatment,” the police spokesman said.

Anguished by the cloud burst near Shree Amarnath cave. Condolences to the bereaved families. Spoke to @manojsinha_ Ji and took stock of the situation. Rescue and relief operations are underway. All possible assistance is being provided to the affected.

“Teams of police, NDRF and SDRF besides security forces have been pressed into action in the ongoing rescue operation,” he said.

Earlier, police had said that “some langars and tents have come under cloud burst/flash floods at Holy Cave. “02 deaths reported. Rescue operation by Police, NDRF & SFs in progress. Injured being airlifted for treatment. Situation under control”.
