Srinagar: As a run-up to commemorating the Kargil Vijay Diwas, on July 06, 2022, the Kargil Vijay Diwas Victory Flame arrived at Chak-Kigam Garrison amidst traditional fanfare.

“The Victory Flame was flagged off from Udhampur-based HQ Northern Command on June 17, 2022 and arrived at Chak-Kigam Garrison today. The event witnessed one mile run by the Indian War veterans, teachers and students to pay homage to the brave soldiers killed in action during Kargil War,” said PRO (Defence) Srinagar.

“The design of the Victory Flame has been inspired by the grit, guts and glory displayed by the immortals who made the supreme sacrifice for the motherland in the finest tradition of the Indian Army. The torch is made up of copper, brass and wood which symbolizes the tenacity and determination of our fallen heroes. The event infused the environment with Patriotic Vibes amid cries of Bharat mata ki Jai. Thereafter the Victory Flame was brought to Lolab Valley at Zorawar Garrison, Gujjarpatti,” the PRO said.

“The event witnessed wreath-laying by Indian Army officials, civil administration officials, Ex-Servicemen including Kargil War veterans and Veer Naris to pay homage to the brave soldiers killed in action during the Kargil War. This year’s Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations are unique in two ways as the Kargil Vijay Diwas coincides with the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav Celebrations’. The Kargil war veterans and Veer Naris present on the solemn occasion were felicitated and their immense contribution in the service of the motherland was remembered,” he said.

“The cornerstone of the event was that it provided everyone present, especially the younger generation with an opportunity to cherish the historically significant and momentous victory achieved by the Indian Armed Forces over Pakistan. A large number of people from all walks of life across the Lolab valley witnessed the event with patriotic fervor,” he added.
