Students awareness rally marks ‘World No Tobacco Day’ in Srinagar

Srinagar: World No Tobacco Day was today celebrated across Kashmir Division by the Food Safety Wing (FSW) of Drugs and Food Control Organization (D&FCO) in collaboration with the Education and Other departments.

In district Srinagar, an awareness programme was organized in Govt. MPML Hr. Secondary School.

During the awareness programme, Dy. Commissioner Food Safety Kashmir, Irfana Ahmad stressed upon the need to shun the practice of cigarette smoking so that society gets rid of tobacco usage.

Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar Hilal Ahmad Mir sensitized the participants about the law governing the regulation of tobacco products and the guarantees provided by our constitution to lead a healthy life. He also deliberated upon various provisions of Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution)Act 2003.

Technical Officer Shabir Ahmad Lone sensitized about the ill effects of tobacco products. Nodal Officer COTPA Kashmir Division, Mushtaq Abbas Zakir gave detailed power point presentation upon the theme of World no tobacco day 2022 “Protect the environment” and the effect of Tobacco cultivation on the Environment.

Principal MPML Hr. Secondary School, Romana also stressed upon the need to live a tobacco-free life.

Afterward, all the participants took the pledge to desist from smoking and encourage others not to smoke.
