BSF, Agri Deptt Kashmir organises farmer outreach prog at Uri

‘Coordinated efforts being made for development of Border area’

Uri: Continuing the collective efforts by the Agriculture Production and Farmer Welfare Department Kashmir and Border Security Force (BSF) for the development of border areas, a farmer outreach program was organized at Uri Baramulla with the aim to promote, organic farming for the cultivation of the different crops grown in the region.

The program was jointly inaugurated by the Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal and Inspector General Border Security Force (BSF) Raja Babu Singh at Uri Baramulla. The program was attended by a huge gathering of farmers, officers from the Department and B.S.F.

Sharing his thoughts I.G.BSF Raja Babu Singh appreciated the coordinated effort by BSF and the Department of Agriculture Kashmir for the development of border areas and further pondered upon its need which will definitely create a difference and will serve the purpose. He said such farmer-centric programs for the people of border areas will continue in the coming days.

Director while addressing a huge gathering of farmers impressed upon the officers to strengthen the coordination with farmers to improve their agriculture income.

Chowdhary highlighted various initiatives by the Department for the benefit of the farming community of border areas and assured full support to the farming community on all fronts. 

He marked the role of organic cultivation of Kala Zeera (Black Cumin), Potato, and other such crops for the economy of the region. Iqbal said the produce from the region is organic and the department has a multifaceted marketing policy in place so that the farmers could fetch attractive returns for their produce.

Director Agriculture said the department is vigorously working to imbibe the culture of organic cultivation in the area and marketing the crop production of the area so that the socio-economic transformation of the farmers of border areas like Gurez could be achieved.

In the end, various incentives like maize seeds, vegetable seeds, ploughs etc were distributed among the farmer in presence of DDC Tulail RaJa Ajaz sahib and BDC Gurez madam Fahmida Bano, Joint Director Agriculture Farms Mohammad Qasim Gani, Deputy Director Agriculture Mohammad Younis Chowdhary and other senior officers of the Department were present on the occasion.
