Officials said the fire broke out from the 1st floor of the building that engulfed it completely, causing damage to the offices housed in it. As soon as the incident occurred, at least 25 fire-tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.

“Fire broke out at midnight around 1:40 in the 1st floor of the building. Being made of wood, the first floor housing SP, SDPO and allied offices were completely damaged in the incident. At least twenty-five fire tenders were pressed into service while half of them were put on standby mode on M.A Road for supplying water,” a senior official at Kothibagh Police Station told ‘Kashmir Images’.

A firefighter, identified as Ansar Ahmad Malla, he said suffered injuries while dousing the flames; he was immediately shifted to SMHS hospital for treatment and is stable.

Officials said investigation is on to ascertain the cause of the fire.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar visited the spot today to assess the damage caused to the police station. The incident occurred a day after Traffic Police headquarters was partially gutted in an overnight blaze on Wednesday.
