GDC Bandipora organises Annual Road Race

BANDIPORA: With a purpose to inspire youth towards sports and games for a healthy life style, the Department of Physical Education and Sports of HKM Degree College Bandipora today organised an Annual College Road Race for boys from Aloosa Chowk to Patushai stop.

A total of 60-students participated in the road race. The race was flagged off by the Principal of the College Dr Mohammad Amin Malik at Aloosa chowk at 6.00 am which culminated at Patushai stop at a distance of 7 kms.

Javid Ahmad Bhat BA 2nd semester student took the lead by sprinting ahead of the rest of the competitors and finished Ist position with a comfortable lead. Zubair Shafi Khan, BA 2nd semester student finished at 2nd position and Javid Ahmad Reshi BA 2nd semester on 3rd position. Students Mushtaq Ahmad, Showkat Ahmad, Majeed Ahmad Parrey, Ahsan Sultan, Khlaid Ahmad Reshi, Aazim Nazir Mir, Khalid and Zameer Ahmad finished 4th to 10th position respectively.

Later, prize distribution function was held in the Auditorium of the college where principal and staff awarded trophies, medals and cash prizes to winners.

Speaking on the occasion the principal of the college Dr Mohd Amin Malik congratulated all the participants along with the winners. He said that participation in Sports and games is not only to keep physical fitness but it has many other positive effects. He said that sports inculcate discipline, team spirit, togetherness and discourages defacement by drug addiction, stress and other problems.

The Principal informed that more infrastructure is being built to promote sports and games in the campus for the overall development of the students.

The convenor Sports & Physical Education Department Dr Sameer Mohiuddin talked about the different activities of sports going on in the college. Prof Abdul Gani highlighted the importance of the event.
