SRINAGAR: Commissioner Secretary, Forest, Environment and Ecology, Sanjeev Verma, today visited Hokersar Wetland Conservation Reserve, to review progress on cleanliness programme being observed from 7th to 21st May 2022 under the banner “TAWAZUN” with slogan “Save Hokersar-Save Srinagar”.

The drive is being conducted in joint collaboration with all stakeholder departments, locals, NGOs, Educational Institutions and other participating agencies.

The Commissioner Secretary directed the officers of the Wildlife department to intensify such drives in other wetlands also to ensure that ecological characteristics of these important ecosystems are maintained for biodiversity conservation and flood mitigation as well.

He was briefed by the Regional Wildlife Warden, Kashmir, regarding the approved programmes being implemented in Hokersar and other wetlands during the current financial year.

Commissioner Secretary emphasized the need to further expedite implementation of these programmes so that the objective of restoring these wetlands is achieved in full.

He also reviewed implementation of various directions issued by the Chief Secretary during his recent visit to Hokersar especially with regard to ongoing works being carried out for beautification and eco-restoration of Hokersar Wetland Reserve as an Eco-Tourist Destination.

Later, Commissioner Secretary inspected the dredging works being carried out by the Mechanical Engineering Department, Baramulla there area. He had a detailed discussion with the officers of the concerned department regarding the restoration plan of Hokersar Wetland Reserve and its execution parameters.

He issued on spot directions for promoting various tourist facilities in the Reserve under eco-restoration plan depicting Kashmiri culture besides ensuring beatification of the adjacent bund as well.
