Baramulla: Principal Secretary, Jal Shakti, Ashok Kumar Parmar, today reviewed upcoming prestigious project titled “Comprehensive Plan for Flood Management Works on River Jehlum and its Tributaries -Phase Il” during his visit to Baramullah. 

Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Kashmir and other senior engineers of the district accompanied the Principal Secretary.

Parmar visited Nigli Sopore where he discussed the plan of action for execution of Phase ll Part A of outfall channel of River Jehlum. The total cost of this phase II flood management project is Rs 1623.43 crore spanning from Anantnag to Uri.

Pertinently, various flood protection works would be taken up under this project along about 79 km stretch of River Jehlum from Ningle to LoC and its tributaries. The works to be executed would include widening of river by 40 meters for a length of about 19 km, construction of navigation channel at Sopore and improvement to various tributaries. 

Principal Secretary had a detailed review of project related issues including compensation of land and structures, raising of embankments, widening of outfall channel from Sopore to Baramulla and various related matters.

While taking an overall review of the project, the Principal Secretary said that the Phase I of the project has been completed smoothly while work on Phase II will also be executed expeditiously. He impressed upon the Chief Engineer Irrigation & Flood Control Department and executing agencies to work in a coordinated manner so that all these vital projects get completed in time.

The Principal Secretary also had a detailed interaction with all stakeholders about their issues regarding implementation of the project.

Earlier, Principal Secretary inspected the starting point of Flood Spill Channel at Padshahi Bagh where he was informed about the status of works being carried out for widening and drugging of the channel.

He also inspected the spill channel at Bemina spot where he was given the status of works of re-sectioning of Bemina bridge besides compensation and rehabilitation process. 

He also visited Naidkhai Sumbal and inspected the proposed site for re-sectioning of FSC at the location.
