Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah in his message on Labour Day (May Day) saluted the determination and hard work of countless workers who play a big role in the development of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh saying that the party will continue to work for the welfare of fixed income groups and daily wagers including artisans.

Appreciating the toil of workers from organized as well unorganized sector, Dr Farooq, in a statement said, “When we celebrate May 1st as International Labour Day around the globe, for us it’s a day of remembrance of the indigenous struggle of our own people at Zaldagar, and silk factory against the unjust system. I take this opportunity and pay glowing tributes to the martyrs of the Zaldagar massacre. The Zaldagar, Silk factory agitation acted as a precursor to the movement against an unjust system initiated by Sher-e Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah,” Dr Farooq said. “The Naya Kashmir document of our party envisaged established principles of labour laws including the right to work according to the individual capacity.”

Dr. Farooq said that the NC will continue to lend a helping hand to the artisan community of the state. “Today we see many of our artisans switching their professions in wake of the discontent due to the implementation of GST by the successive governments since 2015. Our party is conscious of the plight of our artisans, whose golden hands have brought laurels to our state across the globe,” Dr Farooq said.

“The underway struggle of our party aims to make amends to the imprudent anti artisan anti worker policies implemented post 2015,” he adding that NC has always been a benefactor of small and marginalized traders, daily wagers, fixed income groups, and other workers of both organized and unorganized class.
