‘Development of 5 Model tourist hamlets in Dal Lake’: DC Sgr holds meeting to formulate action plan

Srinagar: In order to formulate the Action plan for holistic development and to create tourist hamlets in Dal Lake, a meeting was held on Monday under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad at DC Office Complex, here.

The meeting held threadbare deliberation on the different aspects with regard to formulation of a comprehensive action plan for infrastructure development, skill development and beautification measures of five hamlets including Kachri Mohalla, Sofi Mohalla, Tinda Mohalla, Akhoon Mohalla and Vegetable market & floating garden in Dal Lake.

On the occasion, the DC directed the officers to prepare Department wise plans within one week for development of five Hamlets/Mohallas in Dal Lake being established on pilot basis for the development of tourist hamlets having all basic facilities for inhabitants as well as tourists and local visitors.

The DC said that the development of tourist villages should be carried out in such a manner that they will provide home stay facilities to tourists, besides providing employment opportunities to local youth by providing handholding through different government self-employment schemes.

He instructed all the line Officers to conduct a joint survey in these hamlets to identify the youth interested in Agriculture, Horticulture, Handicrafts and other trades so that they are provided proper hand holding to earn livelihood to local unemployed youth.

The Tourism Department was asked to prepare a detailed plan for beautification/facade upgradation in and around the identified hamlets in coordination with LCMA to finalize the overall proposed plan.

He asked the officers to explore the possibilities under mission youth scheme for development of these Model villages and stressed on creation of youth clubs in these areas and their involvement in sustainable development of these hamlets.

The DC also stressed on creating awareness among people regarding various welfare schemes of Fisheries, Floriculture, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry to acquaint local people about the beneficiary schemes implemented by their respective departments so that local people would get employment and earn maximum benefits out of them.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Faz lul Haseeb, Joint Commissioner SMC, Chief Planning Officer, Deputy Director Employment, Deputy Director Tourism, Chief Agriculture Officer, DFO Urban, Assistant Director Handicrafts, Collector LCMA, District Officer Mission Youth and other Officers from Horticulture, UEED, Labour attended the meeting.
