Kulgam lifts YSS Cup-2021 Volleyball trophy

‘YSS Cup-2022 to be held from April 7’

JAMMU: Asserting that YSS Cup 2021 in the disciplines of Volleyball, Cricket, Kho-Kho and Kabaddi serve as a launching pad to tap young talent at the grass-root level, Principal Secretary, Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Alok Kumar, toady emphasized the need for making it an annual feature.

Alok Kumar was addressing at the closing ceremony of YSS Cup 2021 Volleyball Tournament, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at Khel Gaon Nagrota.

Principal Secretary was the chief guest on the occasion while Director YSS Department, Gazanfar Ali was the guest of honour.

Earlier, in the summit clash, District Kulgam  trounced Anantnag in a close contest by 3-0 sets (27-25, 25-16, 26-24) to lift the trophy of YSS Cup-2021 Volleyball, while in the match for third place between the losers of semi finals, Jammu prevailed over Poonch by 2-0 sets (25-20, 25-17).

Speaking on the occasion, the Principal Secretary lavished praise on the organisers for successfully holding the event. He said that encouraged by the overwhelming response to this sporting extravaganza the department has decided to start YSS-2022 in the same sports disciplines from 7th of the ongoing month.

Principal Secretary said that he had issued strict instructions to the experts, coaches of these sports disciplines to focus on the talented players and make a list of the same for bestowing advance training to them.

Earlier, Gazanfar Ali gave an overview of the activities and achievements of the department.

“To infuse a sense of competition and make these sports competitions more interesting and full of excitement, the YS&S department is giving away cash prizes of 50 thousand for first position, 30 thousand for second position and Rs 20 thousand for third position in all the four games being played under YSS Cup-21”, informed Gazanfar Ali.

On the occasion, the Principal Secretary honoured the winners and the runners-up teams with trophies and medals.

The matches were officiated by a panel of experts from the department of Youth Services and Sports.
