Srinagar: Two local militants have been killed in a gunfight in Rainawari area in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district, officials said.

They told GNS that an encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Surtaing area of Rainawari during which two militants were killed.

“Even as the names of the slain duo were being ascertained both of them are believed to be locals”, the official said adding incriminating materials including arms and ammunition has been recovered from the site.

Earlier an official told GNS that on receipt of specific input about presence of militants in Rainawari, a joint party of forces subsequently laid a cordon at the site.

The hiding militants, the official said, opened fire leading to an encounter.

A senior police official confirming the killing of two militants said that both of them are locals.

“Searches are being conducted in and around the site”, the official added.
