Srinagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Friday said that it has trapped and arrested a Sales Tax inspector red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe.

ACB traps and arrests Khalid Bashir Tantray, Inspector, Sales Tax Department, Srinagar demanding and accepting bribe amount of Rs. 3 Lakh for settling case of penalty of Sales tax.

In a statement here, the ACB spokesman said that it had received a written complaint alleging that Khalid Bashir Tantray, Sales Tax Inspector, Srinagar, is demanding Rs 3 lakh as bribe for setting right records pertaining to Internal Audit Report of the Sales Tax Department Srinagar.

The complainant, who is runs a business unit, was facing penalty of Rs 14 lakh from Sales Tax department.

After registering a case, ACB constituted a trap team which caught Khalid Bashir Tantray red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe amount of Rs 3 lakh from the complainant.

Tantray was arrested on the spot by the ACB team, while the bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses. Subsequently, searches were also conducted in residential house of the accused.

Further investigation into the case is on, ACB spokesman said.
