Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Monday reported 53 new positive cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), while no virus-related death was reported in the last 24 hours, officials said.

Of the fresh cases, they said 32 were reported from the Kashmir Valley and 21 from the Jammu division – taking the total number of positive cases recorded so far to 4,53,323.

They also said 58 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals including 32 from Jammu division and26 from Kashmir in the last 24 hours.

No new case of Mucormycosis (black fungus) was reported today, they said.

On vaccination, the daily media bulletin on novel coronavirus informed that 13,385 doses of COVID vaccine were administered in the last 24 hours bringing the cumulative number of doses administered across J&K to 2,16,13,171.

According to the bulletin, out of 4,53,323 positive cases recorded cumulatively so far, currently there are 320 active positive cases in the UT including 171 in Kashmir and 149 in Jammu division, while as 4,48,254 persons have recovered and 4,749 have died – 2,423 in Kashmir and 2,326 in Jammu division.

Providing district-wise breakup for positive cases, the bulletin said that Srinagar reported 14 cases, Baramulla reported 11 cases, Kupwara reported six cases, Kulgam reported one case while Budgam, Bandipora, Pulwama, Anantnag, Ganderbal and Shopian districts reported no fresh cases today.

Similarly, Jammu reported 14 cases, Doda and Ramban reported three cases each, Rajouri reported one case while Udhampur, Kishtwar, Kathua, Samba, Poonch, and Reasi districts reported no fresh cases today.

COVID-19 cases in country lowest in 662 days, active caseload dips

With 3,993 fresh coronavirus infections, daily COVID-19 cases in India were the lowest in 662 days, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.

The active cases fell below 50,000 after 664 days and the total virus tally stood at 4,29,71,308.

The death toll climbed to 5,15,210 with 108 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.

“India achieved a major milestone today as the daily new COVID-19 cases have declined to 3,993 in the last 24 hours. This is the lowest new cases recorded in India after a gap of 662 days, since 3,970 cases were reported on 16th May 2020,” the ministry said.

The country’s active cases stand at 49,948, which is at its lowest since 49,219 cases were recorded on May 14, 2021, it stated.

The active cases comprise 0.12 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate further improved to 98.68 percent, the ministry said.

A reduction of 4,170 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded as 0.46 percent while the weekly positivity rate was 0.68 percent, according to the ministry.

The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 179.13 crore.
