Srinagar: Security forces have arrested a militant associate of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Baramulla district of north Kashmir while three more associates of the same outfit were arrested in Pulwama, police said on Tuesday.
Acting on specific information, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Nadihal area of Sopore’s Rafiabad, a police spokesman said.
“During the search, a terrorist associate of the proscribed LeT was arrested,” he said.
The arrested has been identified as Firdous Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Muhammad, a resident of Check Seri Pattan, the spokesman said.
Incriminating material, arms and ammunition, including an AK-56 rifle, and 30 bullets were seized, he said.
A case has been registered and investigation initiated, the spokesman said.
Three LeT associates were also held in Pulwama district.
In a statement, a spokesman said that police along with Army’s 53 RR and 182 Bn CRPF busted a module of LeT militant outfit by arresting three “militant associates”.
Those arrested were identified as Amir Nazir Hazar, son of Nazir Ahmad Hazar, resident of Wagam; Suhail Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Rashid Bhat; and Nasir Hussain, son of Bashir Ahmad Ganie, residents of Chinar Bagh, Pulwama.
“The trio was acting as associates of militant Arif Hazar alias Rehan,” the spokesman said, adding that a grenade, 13 rounds of AK-47 and other incriminating material were recovered from their possession, he said.
In this regard, a case was registered at Police Station Pulwama, and investigation initiated, police said.
