Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Friday welcomed the regularization of PDLs/TDLs of PDD, saying the much awaited melioration should also be extended to thousands of other daily rated wagers, contractual and need based employees working in other departments.

In a statement party’s Additional Spokesperson Mudassar Shahmiri said, “It is indeed a welcome step. Our party MPs had put their heart and soul into this issue, raised it in the parliament and flagged it up with the concerned ministry as well. The anxiously awaited measure has raised the hopes of thousands of such other need based, contractual, daily rated workers who also ache for an end to their long drawn miseries.”

With delay in regularization, he said that these employees are deprived of a number of benefits like pay scale, grade pay, HRA, education allowance etc available to their colleagues in the same pay scale performing similar and in some cases less onerous duties.

Shahmiri further stated that these temporary, casual, seasonal, need based, local fund workers are denied Minimum Wages. “In some cases like Hospital Fund Workers and Health Workers wages paid are only a fraction of minimum Wages,” he noted.

The implementation of Minimum Wages Act in Jammu and Kashmir, Shahmiri said will put an early end to the wanton discrimination faced by these hapless Workers, who despite working at par with permanent government employees, don’t get the regular benefits enjoyed by their counterparts. “I hope that the government, in the spirit of being a welfare state, will come up with a road map for the speedy regularization of all such CIC, Contractual, need based, daily rated employees forthwith,” he added.
