Jammu: Additional Chief Secretary, Health & Medical Education, Vivek Bhardwaj today inaugurated Distribution House-cum-Jan Aushadi Kendra here as part of the weeklong celebrations of the Janaushadhi Diwas being celebrated across the Country.

The aim of the weeklong celebrations that commenced from March 01 and will conclude on March 07 is to create awareness about the benefits of Jan Aushadhi Medicines available under the national flagship scheme of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana.

Principal Government Medical College Jammu, Director General Health & Family Welfare Jammu, State Drugs Controller J&K, Assistant Drugs Controller Jammu, Nodal Officer, PMBI (Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices, Bureau of India), various prominent citizens & stakeholders were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Additional Chief Secretary emphasized that the main objective of this flagship scheme is that poor and the common people shall have access to affordable quality medicines at the lowest prices.

Bhardwaj added that the Government has set a target to increase the number of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) across J&K in public health institutions to provide quality generic medicines at affordable prices to all and all the necessary steps in this perspective have been initiated.

Principal, GMC, Jammu, Dr. Shashi Sudan and Director General Health & Family Welfare, Dr Saleem ur Rehman spelled out the benefits of the PMBJAY scheme.

State Drugs Controller (Nodal Officer, PMBJAY, J&K), Ms.Lotika Khajuria, briefed about the initiatives of the Government and further informed that the scheme ensures easy access of affordable & quality medicine to the people in every nook and corner.

Coordinator PMBJAY, Rifat Nazir, and Assistant Drugs Controller Jammu, Mohammad Iqbal also spoke on the occasion.
