International Mother Language Day celebrated at Bijbihara

Anantnag: International Mother Language Day was celebrated at Bijbihara, Anantnag by Maraaz Adbee Sangam in collaboration with Government Degree College Bajbehara.

The event was presided over by Dr Muhammad Shafi Ayaz, Vice President, Maraaz Adbee Sangam.

Principal Degree College Bijbehara Prof. Muzaffar Ahmad Bhat was the special guest while Prof. Abdul Salam Dar was the guest of honor.

Izhar Mubashir (General Secretary, Maraaz Adbee Sangam) delivered the welcome address and also conducted the proceedings of the function. Former President of Maraaz Adbee Sangam Riyaz Anznoo and Prof. Ishfaq Bhat spoke on the importance of Kashmiri language and shed light on the historical background of Kashmiri language.

Prof. Muzaffar Ahmed Bhat in his speech said that Kashmiri language is a historical language and it has its own high position. Dr Mohammad Shafi Ayaz said that Kashmiris are identified with Kashmiri language and we have to make every effort for its protection and development.

Prof. Abdul Salam Dar said that educational institutions play a key role in the development of any language and we have to make every effort to make the students aware of the importance of Kashmiri language so that the language is preserved.

On the occasion, of International Mother Language Day, many writers of the region were commemorated, including Ghulam Mohammad Rafiq, Arjun Dev Majboor, Mohan Lal Ash, Bashir Asrar, Ghulam Mohammad Gulzar and Abdul Ahad Khushroo for their literary services in Kashmiri language.

The event was attended by eminent writers. Prof. Farooq Ahmad delivered the concluding remarks and thanked the guests.
