ACB traps Sarpanch in Anantnag for accepting bribe

Srinagar: Anti-Corruption Bureau on Wednesday said it has trapped and arrested a woman Sarpanch in Anantnag district for accepting a bribe of Rs 6500.

According to an official press release, ACB received a complaint, wherein the complainant alleged that Sarpanch of Khulchohar, in Anantnag district identified as Hafiza Begum, wife of Ghulam Qadir Kumar, resident of Kulhchohar, Block Shangus, Anantnag had demanded Rs. 6500 on account of approving work files related to works executed under MGNREGA, 14 FC and SBM through the office of BDO Shangus.

Following this complaint, a case was registered and a trap team was constituted, which caught Hafiza Begum red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs. 6500 from the complainant.

She was arrested and taken into custody by ACB team while the bribe money was also recovered from her possession in presence of independent witnesses, ACB said, adding that further investigations of the case is going on.
