World Wetland Day commemorated at Pampore

Srinagar: A function was today organized by the Department of Wildlife Protection, Wetlands Division Kashmir at Government Degree College, Pampore (Pampore Wetland Conservation Reserve) famous Wetlands of Jammu & Kashmir to commemorate the Week of World Wetland Day (WWD).

On the occasion, Tehsildar, Pampore Ishtiyaq Mohi u Din was the guest of honour. The main aim of the function was to focus on the international theme “Wetland, Action for people and Nature”and to highlight the importance of wetlands, to ensure conservation and sustainable use of Valley Wetlands.

A Signature campaign on Wall of pledge to save and protect Pampore Wetland Conservation Reserve and other Wetlands of Pampore District was inaugurated by the Chief Guest by signing on the wall.

The wall of pledge was also signed by Seema Naaz, Principal Government Degree College, Pampore and Ifshan Deewan, Wildlife Warden, Wetlands Division Kashmir and other prominent citizens from the Pampore District.

Further, another event “Talk for Wetlands” was also conducted in which Senior Citizens, Local NGO Members of WCF, Bird Watchers and other stakeholders participated.

On the occasion, the role of the local people, youth was emphasized for the protection and perpetuation of the of Pampore Wetlands which provide livelihood to the numerous people living on the fringes of the said Wetland Conservation Reserves and their role for the sustenance of the endemic Flora and Fauna besides for the upgradation of the water bodies in Kashmir Region.
