Dept of Wildlife Protection, WD Kashmir commemorates ‘World Wetland Day’ at Hygam

SRINAGAR: To commemorate the Week of World Wetland Day (WWD) which is celebrated on 2nd of February every year, an inaugural function was organized by the Department of Wildlife Protection J&K Government, Wetlands Division Kashmir at Hygam Wetland Conservation Reserve a famous Wetland of Jammu & Kashmir.

On the occasion, Regional Wildlife Warden, Kashmir Region, Rashid Yahya Naqash, was the Chief Guest.

The main aim of the function was to focus on the international theme “Wetland, Action for people and Nature” also to highlight the importance of actions, to ensure conservation and sustainable use of Valley Wetlands.

A Signature campaign on the Wall of pledge to save and protect Hygam Wetland Conservation Reserve was inaugurated by the Chief Guest by signing on the wall.

The wall of pledge was also signed by Ifshan Deewan, Wildlife Warden, Wetlands Division Kashmir, other prominent citizens from the Baramulla district, further.

Another event “Talk for Hygam” was also conducted in the Wetland Conservation Reserve in which Senior Citizens, Local Community Members, and other stakeholders participated.

On the occasion Rashid Yahya Naqash, Regional Wildlife Warden, Kashmir Region emphasized the role of the local people and the youth for the protection and perpetuation of the of Hygam Wetland which provides livelihood for the thousands of the people living on the fringes of the said Wetland Conservation Reserve and their role for the sustenance of the endemic Flora and Fauna and for the up gradation of the water bodies in Kashmir Region.

During the program COVID Appropriate Behavior (CAB) was followed in letter and spirit.
