Jammu: Apni Party Senior Vice President Ghulam Hassan Mir has demanded implementation of the central Other Backward Class quota for the upliftment of the people falling in this category in Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing an OBC wing leaders and workers meeting which was organized by State OBC Coordinator Madan Lal Chalotra in Apni Party Office at Gandhi Nagar, Mir said that the OBC people were not central OBC reservation quota before August 5, 2019 with an excuse by the authorities concern that the central laws were not application at that time.

“It is unfortunate to note that these people are still deprived of what they deserve in the form of reservation which is being enjoyed all over the country. When other central laws are being implemented in J&K, the delay in implementing central OBC quota in reservation at par with rest of the States is a concern for all of us,” he added.

He said that the Govt had constituted a Commission on OBC which has yet to submit its report and it is because of delay in submission of the report, we believe the reservation quota is not implemented in J&K.

“Therefore, the Commission must submit its report without delay so that the long pending demand of OBC people could be fulfilled by granting them 27% reservation,” he added.

He said that the discrimination with OBC people will not be tolerated as the people from the community have remained neglected politically, socially and economically for decades by the traditional political parties.

He said that his Party’s fight for the rights of marginalized sections of society will continue to bring them at par with the other communities.

Meanwhile, State General Secretary Vikram Malhotra also expressed serious concern over the treatment of the OBC people in J&K.

“Their population is scattered all around the Jammu division and many of the families were displaced,” he said.

Whereas, the Provincial President, Jammu, Manjit Singh said that the reservation quota should be enhanced at par with rest of the States in the country which would help in upliftment of their economic present status; their children would be able to get jobs and reservation in professional educational institutions.

Manjit Singh said that the Apni Party believes in equality to all sections of society and there would not compromise on constitutional rights of the marginalized section of society.

On this occasion, OBC State Coordinator Madan Lal Chalotra also highlighted various issues brought by the community.
