Two brothers from Bandipora drown in river Jhelum in Baramulla

Baramulla: In a tragic mishap two brothers from Bandipora drowned after their boat, loaded with sand, capsized in river Jhelum at Khawajabagh area of Baramulla district on Friday. While body of the one brother was fished out, searches to locate the second brother were on when this report was being filed,

Eyewitness said that two brothers identified as Hilal Ahmad Malla and Naseer Ahmad Malla, sons of Manzoor Ahmad Malla of Larwaghat Bandipora drowned in the river Jehlum during sand extraction at Khawajabagh area of Baramulla.

“The duo was rowing the boat, loaded with sand, towards the shore as it suddenly capsized resulted into their drowning,” said an eyewitness.

“We rushed to rescue them but couldn’t. Soon after the incident, a massive rescue and search operation was launched by local boatmen joined by police to trace the bodies,” he added.

He said body of Hilal Ahmad Mallawas retrieved but another brother’s body couldn’t be fished out till late evening.

A police officer said that extensive rescue and search operation by police, personnel from SDRF and locals was going on and only one body could be traced so far.
