Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Wednesday reiterated its commitment to the permanent and dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits.

In a statement, the Party Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said the forced displacement of our Kashmiri Pandit brethren in early 1990 is a blot in the history of Kashmir.

Emphasizing on ensuring communal harmony, which he said, has been a centerpiece of Kashmir’s social and cultural life, Imran said that the pluralistic ethos and communal harmony have been the cultural mainstay of our shared history and that the party will continue to strive to protect it from the nefarious designs of communal forces who aim to vitiate it.

“The return of Kashmiri Pandits is high on our party agenda. We have been and will continue to work towards creating an enabling atmosphere for the community to return and live permanently in their places of birth,” he said.

Imran said that it was during the NC led government that proposals for enhancement of the package of incentives under the Prime Minister’s package for the return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants were given a cabinet nod led by Omar Abdullah. “It was also NC which worked out an employment package for the members of the minority community who did not migrate,” he said adding, “It was due to the highly incentivised policy framework of Omar Abdullah led government that reverse migration of Kashmiri Pandits began in 2008-2009 rehabilitation package.”

He said that right-wing parties and groups, who are giving an impression of being well-wishers of the Kashmiri Pandits should answer as to why they have failed to protect the key interests of the community.
