Kulgam: One militant and a police man where killed while as three army soldiers and two civilians were injured in an ongoing encounter between militants and security forces at Pariwan village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday, official sources said.

The sources said that the gunfight was triggered after a joint team of the police, CRPF and Army’s 34 RR cordoned off the Pariwan area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about presence of militants.

As the security forces zeroed in on the spot where militants were hiding, they came under a heavy volume of fire.

Sources said that one militant and a police man of Special Operations Group (SOG) were killed while as three army personnel and two civilians were injured in the encounter.

While the operation was still on, sources said that one to two militants are reportedly still trapped there.

Police sources said that the militant killed and those engaged in the shoot-out are likely affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).
