‘Roadmap for constitution of Standing Committees’

Srinagar: In order to chalk out a roadmap for constitution of Standing Committees in the District Development Council (DDC) Srinagar, the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, on Saturday held an interactive session with DDC Chairman and members of DDC, BDC and Panchayat Raj Institutions here at Meeting Hall of DC Office Complex.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Rakesh Balwal was also present on the occasion.

Chairman District Development Council, Srinagar, Malik Aftab, Vice Chairman, Bilal Ahmad, other members of DDC, Srinagar, members of Block Development Council (BDC), Srinagar and other representatives of Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs) participated in the session.

Besides, Chief Planning Officer, Srinagar, Assistant Commissioner Development, District Panchayat Officer and other officers were also present on the occasion.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner gave a detailed overview about the constitution of Standing Committees under District Development Council and said that the Government is taking all out efforts to strengthen the democratic set up at grass root level to ensure sustainable socio-economic development at all fronts.

The DC informed the meeting that the Standing Committees for Finance, Development, Public works, Health & Education and Social Welfare will be constituted at District Development Council level to deal with different matters.

He said all other members, other than chairperson and vice-chairperson, shall be elected as heads of these committees. He further said that the mandate of these five Committees has been defined by the law.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner asked all the DDC members to elect the bodies for all five Standing Committees so that the constitution of the Committees is finalized.

The DC stressed on the need to further strengthen the coordination among Public representatives, Police and Civil Administration for overall development and welfare of the public. He also stressed on taking cleanliness measures in all villages at panchayat level in coordination of local population.

He laid emphasis on door to door waste collection and proper solid waste management measures to make all panchayats neat and clean.

After giving formal introduction, the Senior Superintendent of Police in his address said that police are always at the beck and call of the public and urged the participating public representatives to keep proper coordination with the concerned police authorities to resolve any kind of public matters at the earliest.
