2 residential houses, school damaged due to heavy snowfall in Uri

Baramulla: At least three structures including two residential houses and a primary school were damaged by heavy snowfall in different villages of north Kashmir’s Uri in Baramulla district.

Locals of Churanda Uri told Kashmir Images on the phone that a rooftop of house of Mohmmad Iqbal Khatana resident of Chunranda Uri near LoC was damaged due to heavy snowfall. However, no loss of life or injury has been reported.

The affected family claimed that nobody from the administration visited the despite being informed about the incident.

In the hilly village Panjnag Nowarunda, the foundation wall of Primary School got damaged due to snowfall. Meanwhile, another residential house of Altaf Ahmad Bhat of Ramgai Kalgay Uri got badly damaged after a rolling rock rammed into it.

A local resident, Mohammad Imran, told Kashmir Images on phone that the border villages of Uri received 1-3 feet of snow due to which the roads of the frontier villages remain cut off from the Uri town.

Meanwhile, many hilly areas of Sub Division Uri including Nawa, Runda, Gowalan, Sukhdar, Churanda, Batgrah, Sohra, Hathlanga, Mohthal, upper Nambla, upper Garkote, Zamoorpatan, Maya, Lachipora, Bijhama, Babagale, Limber, Hillan, Phalipora, Chotali, Dudran, Banali and Tarkajan Boniyar received fresh snowfall on Saturday.

According to the locals, majority of the roads remain blocked and power supply to a large number of snowbound areas remains affected in Sub Division Uri.

Meanwhile, JKNC District President Baramulla Dr Sajjad Shafi Uri urged the administration to clear the roads of snow and restore power supply on war footing basis in district Baramulla especially in far-flung areas of Sub Division Uri, Rafiabad, Tangmarg, Wagora.
