Skill Hub Initiative launched in J&K

JAMMU: The ‘Skill Hub Initiative’ programme, jointly envisioned by Ministry of Education and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, was formally launched in J&K under Samagra Shiksha.

The SKI is a part of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY) 3.0 and is being launched across the country on 1st of January, 2022 which shall be executed through National Skill Development Corporation, New Delhi. The scheme aims to provide NSDC Certified Skill Courses for Out of School Children/Youth and Drop Outs and to prepare them for placements as well as self-entrepreneurships. The scheme shall also be supported by State Skill Development Missions.

Project Director-Samagra Shiksha, Deep Raj Kanethia, revealed that 40 schools have been identified and designated as ‘Skill Hubs’ in J&K by the Union Ministry of Education. However, initially the programme is being launched in 9 Government Schools as Pilot project. These schools shall be imparting training in the NSDC recognized courses to the enrolled candidates belonging to Out of School/Drop Out category. He revealed that eventually the programme shall be extended to cover maximum schools in due course of time.

Pertinent to mention here that the schools that has been designated as Skill Hubs included GHSS Boys (Reasi), GHSS Manzgam, GBHS Bijbehera, GBHS Poonch, BHSS Jawahar Nagar, GGHSS Kishtwar, BHSS Pampore, BHSS Charar-i-Sharief and GHSS SRML,Prade. The Vocational Trainers deployed in these schools with their untiring efforts did extensive counselling of these candidates before being enrolled for certified courses.

The training has been launched in all the schools simultaneously on the eve of New Year in presence of members of SMDCs/SMCs, locals, representative of Panchayats/Municipal Committees and teachers.

It was informed by the concerned officers that more enrolment drives shall be conducted through these schools to provide maximum outreach of the programme.

The programme was coordinated in J&K by Joginder Samyal and Dr. Ravinder Jangral, both Coordinators Vocational Education, Samagra Shiksha.
