Srinagar: Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a Sarpanch and a Village Level Worker (VLW) for accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000 at Norkhah, Baramulla.

A statement issued by the ACB said that the bureau received a complaint wherein the complainant alleged that Nisar Ahmad Sheikh, Sarpanch, Halqa  Zainpora and VLW Farooq Joo of Block Development office, Norkhah, District Baramulla were demanding bribe of Rs 40,000 from complainant  for releasing the  labour payments etc.

“The ACB conducted discrete enquiry and on the basis of findings, prima facie offences u/s 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 (as amended in 2018) and Sec 120-B IPC were made out against the alleged accused persons and accordingly the case was registered u/s 7 of the PC Act 1988 (as amended in 2018) and section 120-B IPC,” the statement said.

It said that a trap was laid and the trap team caught red-handed the Sarpanch Sheikh while accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant.

“He was arrested on the spot by ACB team. Other accused VLW Farooq Joo was also arrested. Searches were also conducted at the premises of the accused,” said the statement, adding, further investigation into the case is going on.
