NCTE, SCERT organize “National Level Discussion on National Mission for Mentoring”

JAMMU: In continuation to implementation of National Education Policy 2020, National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), New Delhi in collaboration with SCERT J&K, organized a “National Level Open House Discussion on National Mission for Mentoring”.

During the program, 25 participants joined in person while around 140 participants (from SCERT and JKBOSE) participated online. These participants included 75 from Jammu division, 48 from Kashmir division and 20 from Ladakh who were faculty from DIETs, field functionaries, HOIs, ZEOs besides faculty from SCERT and JKBOSE.

Pertinently, National Council for Teacher Education, New Delhi, has designed a mentoring mission for teachers and school leaders. A draft document on National Mission for Mentoring (NMM) titled as “Blue Book on Mentoring” has been developed as a set of guidelines towards creation of a document and platform for NMM.

Principal Secretary, School Education Department, B K Singh, in his keynote address, emphasized the new roles of School Education Department as recommended in NEP 2020 and termed NMM a significant step in this regard.

Director SCERT J&K, Professor Veena Pandita emphasized that since its inception, SCERT J&K has been continuously aiming to achieve the goals of enhancing capabilities of teachers in education sector.

A brief introduction of Blue Book on NMM was given by Professor Sharad Sinha, member NMM Committee, who threw light on the main ideas behind the Mission besides discussing the Blue book in detail.

The presentation on draft approach note was shared by Vinay R Sanjivi and Sakshi Rawat which was a well planned document that helped in engaging the participants actively in making the deliberations during the panel discussion.

The four panellists, who shared their valuable suggestions included Head Department of Education and Dean Faculty of Education, Dr. Renu Nanda, Assistant Professors from University of Jammu, Dr. Kajal Devi Manhas, Dr. Mandeep Singh, and Dr. Shashi Prabha.

The distinguished guests who joined the programme online were Project Director, Samagra Shiksha, J&K, Deep Raj, Director School Education, Kashmir, Tasadduq Hussain, Director School Education, Jammu, Dr. Ravi Shanker Sharma, Joint Director, DSE, Jammu, H.R. Pakhroo, Joint Director, DSE, Jammu, Shokat Mehmood, Director Academics, JKBOSE, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Peer, Joint Secretary, Secrecy JKBOSE, Dr. Sudhir Singh and Joint Secretary, Publications JKBOSE, Professor Wahid Makdoomi.

The organizing committee from NCTE, New Delhi was comprised of Member Secretary NCTE, New Delhi, Kesang Y Sherpa, Deputy Secretary, Academic Division, NCTE, Dr. Jayesh Patel, Deputy Secretary, NCTE, Convener Committee on National Mission for Mentoring, NCTE New Delhi, T. Pritam Singh, Section Officer, NCTE, New Delhi, Co-Convener, Committee on National Mission for Mentoring, NCTE, New Delhi, Abhimanyu Yadav, Dr. Shailla Draboo.
