DC Srinagar for smooth traffic flow on City roads

SRINAGAR: In order to  frame out an action plan to overcome traffic Jams and ensure smooth traffic movement on city Roads, the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad,  Monday chaired an officers meeting here in his office Chamber.

The meeting held threadbare discussion on various issues with regard to management of traffic system in Srinagar District including nuisance of wrong parking, roadside encroachments and issue of vehicles plying in contravention to actual route permits.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the officers to formulate a comprehensive action plan and take immediate measures to overcome traffic jams to ensure better regulation of traffic movement within Srinagar Municipal limits particularly on heavy traffic routes.

The DC said it is multi agency efforts and directed SMC authorities, ARTO, Traffic and Police department to work in close coordination and act tough against traffic rules violators, who cause a lot of inconvenience to common people. He directed the officers to conduct a massive enforcement drive against wrong parking and roadside encroachments in Srinagar City.

He also asked to relocate street vendors from heavy traffic junction points which hinder smooth traffic ply. He stressed on the concerned officers to take all required measures to decongest the City roads to ensure smooth flow of traffic. He also directed to keep the provision of adequate parking spaces in crowded places and relocation of the roadside vendors to facilitate hassle-free movement of pedestrians.

Regarding illegal practice of vehicles plying in contravention to allotted route permits, The DC asked the concerned to look into the matter and ensure strict adherence to the existing norms to stop such violations.

The Deputy Commissioner also asked the ARTO to submit the list of approved Bus stops so that action is taken against the illegal traffic operations in the City.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Joint Commissioner SMC, G M, SSCR, Dy S P Traffic, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, ARTO, Tehsildar headquarter, besides Officers from Education, Police and other concerned departments. Whiles representatives of various Transport Associations also participated in the meeting.
