Justice Magrey inaugurates 4th Nt’l Lok Adalat at Distt Court Sgr

SRINAGAR: The Executive Chairman J&K Legal Services Authority & Administrative Judge District Srinagar, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey today inaugurated 4th National Lok Adalat in presence of Judge High Court of J&K and Ladakh, Mohammad Akram Chowdhary at District Court Complex, Srinagar.

The 4th National Lok Adalat was organized by District Legal Services Authority Srinagar under the directions of NALSA and J&K LSA.

The said National Lok Adalat was organized under the Chairmanship of Jeema Bashir, incharge Chairman District legal Services Authority and in incharge Pr. District & Sessions Judge, Srinagar.

On the occasion, a total of Nine Benches were constituted to resolve cases of different nature.

Speaking at the occasion, Justice Magrey said that Alternate Dispute Resolution system is one of the effective modes of disposal of cases and litigants should avail and participate in Lok Adalats.

Further, he said that in Lok Adalat both the parties go home happily and have win-win positions.

During the Lok Adalat, 41 MACT claims/Petitions were taken up in Bench No 1 out of which 36 Claims were settled on Spot & Rs two crore seventy One lakh  Ninety Five Thousand rupees was  awarded as compensation in the said cases. The Executive Chairman JK LSA  on spot handed over cheques to the tune of RS 19,50,000,  Rs 16,50,000,  Rs 13,25,000 & Rs 12,00,000 to four petitioners in four MACT Claims.

Justice Mohammad Akram Chowdhary, said that Lok Adalat is in-expensive with fast delivery of justice and Lok Adalats also help courts in reducing the workload which enables them to look into more serious matters. Further, he said that if the court fee is already paid, the amount will be refunded if the dispute is settled in Lok Adalat.

Secretary District Legal Services Authority Srinagar, Noor Mohammad Mir coordinated the National Lok Adalat at Srinagar.

A total number of 9611 Cases were taken up for their amicable settlement out of which 7,982 Cases were settled. Beside this 2, 71, 95,000/- was awarded as compensation by MACT Srinagar and 1, 55, 18,609/- has been collected as settlement amount by different courts including traffic challans.
