Srinagar: The University of Kashmir on Thursday organised a special function to celebrate the Constitution Day. Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad chaired the function organised by the Department of Law in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).

Addressing students and faculty members on the occasion, Prof Talat said the country’s Constitution is not merely a document but a great vision and mission concerning the welfare and betterment of citizens.

He said the Constitution Day—also known as National Law Day—is observed annually on November 26 to commemorate adoption of the Constitution.

“Young students and researchers, especially from faculties of Law and Social Sciences, must read different aspects of the Constitution and also do research on its varied dimensions,” the VC said.

KU Registrar Dr Nisar A Mir, who was a guest of honour, said the country’s citizens should be thankful to the founders of the Constitution, which is the longest and lengthiest Constitution that has truly given a lot of privileges to the citizens of the country. “Along with rights, there are several Constitutional duties which we as citizens are supposed to follow and while we often talk of our rights, we often forget about our duties which we owe to the society,” he said.

Dean Academic Affairs Prof Farooq A Masoodi said citizens would be strengthening the Constitution by working in accordance with its objectives and principles in the most honest and truthful manner. He said teachers must make young students understand the Constitution and its salient features which will be a great service to the nation.

Head Department of Law Prof Beauty Banday highlighted the essential objectives of the Constitution Day celebrations.
