Capacity Building training prog for preparation of GPDP in Tribal areas begins at Jammu

Jammu: A two-day Capacity Building training programme for preparation of GPDP in Tribal areas began today at Panchayat Bhawan Jammu.

The training programme is being organised by National Tribal Research Institute in collaboration with Tribal Research Institute J&K.

More than 100 participants including elected representatives drawn from Tribal Panchayats of various districts officials and Master Trainers participated in the programme which is being organised as a part of Janjatiya Gaurav Saptah which started on the Birth Anniversary of Birsa Munda on November 15th.

The inaugural address was presented by Ms R. Jaya, Joint secretary, Ministry of Tribal affairs Govt. of India.

Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Secretary Tribal Affairs department J&K said that this capacity building programme will not only help in educating the participants about various aspects of GPDP but will also  aware them about various initiatives of the Govt. of India and Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir for the tribal community.

He stressed on the participants to take keen interest in the training programme as this programme will help in strengthening the grass root level democracy as by educating the PRIs about various aspects of GPDP, they can play an active role in development of their areas as well as tribal communities.

Highlighting the various initiatives of Tribal Affairs Department for the welfare of tribal communities and development of tribal areas he added that recently the department has conducted tribal survey of transhumance population and Tribal transit accommodations are coming up for the welfare of such population.

Speaking about various schemes for the welfare of tribal communities he said various schemes undertaken by the department includes development of 835 mini Sheep Farms for which funds have been released under the UT Capex Budget Scheme “Infrastructure for the Welfare of Tribals” on the analogy/pattern of “Integrated Sheep Development Scheme” (ISDS) of Sheep Husbandry Department J&K, 18 Milk Villages have been sanctioned, Twenty nine Cluster Tribal Model Villages in different Districts of UT of J&K are under development each with project cost of Rs. 1000.00 lakhs.

He further added Tribal Research Institute is also working on  development/preservation of Tribal cultural heritage, providing inputs to States for evidence based planning and appropriate legislations, capacity building of Tribals and persons/institutions associated with tribal affairs, dissemination of information and creation of awareness and this capacity building program is one of its aim.

While addressing the audience he informed that such capacity building training programmes shall also be organised at District and block level in near future to strengthen the panning capacities of gram panchayats in tribal areas.

Special Director NTRI Dr Nupur Tiwary presented the keynote address and gave a detailed presentation on GPDP. OSD Dr Abdul Khabir made a technical presentation on planning at Panchayat level. Director IIPA New Delhi also addressed the gathering.
