Anantnag: Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Health and Medical Education, Vivek Bhardwaj, today visited GMC Anantnag and participated in Jan Aushadi Mitra Sammelan.

Bhardwaj said that the aim of organizing these awareness camps is to communicate to the masses that medicines available at these stores are not only cheaper but have also undergone rigorous quality and efficacy checks.

He directed the officials to ensure that Jan Aushadi Kendras are made available in every Sub Divisional Hospital besides Jan Aushadi stores should have significant market share in sale of medicines. He asked the Chief Medical Officer to work out a plan for establishing Jan Aushadhi stores in all PHCs with 24×7 functioning.

ACS said that the government would soon establish two warehouses, one each in Anantnag and Baramulla to ensure adequate supply of medicines through Jan Aushadi stores.

ACS was informed that 4 centres were established in first phase and 7 centres are presently operational in the district under the scheme. Besides, the district health authorities are creating massive awareness about the importance and benefits of branded and generic medicines.

Sharing his experience, one of the Jan Aushadi store owners said that over the last two years there has been significant growth in sale of generic drugs and many youth are looking forward to set up Jan Aushadi Kendras.

Principal GMC, Anantnag, informed that timely awareness and vaccination regarding COVID in the district has helped greatly in containing the virus.

It is pertinent to mention that Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) is a campaign launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India, to provide quality medicines at affordable prices to the masses through special kendras known as Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana Kendras. There are 120 Jan Aushadi Kendras presently functional in Jammu and Kashmir, of which, 14 are located in Anantnag district.

Later, ACS distributed Jan Aushudi Kits among the beneficiaries.

ACS was accompanied by Director Health, State Drug Control Officer, CMO, BMOs, HoDs of GMC Anantnag besides other concerned officers.

Later, ACS inspected various sections of the hospital and reviewed the healthcare services being extended to the patients. He also inspected the site proposed for establishment of a new Jan Aushudi store.
