J&K reports 158 fresh COVID-19 cases

Active COVID-19 cases in India lowest in 267 days

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir has recorded 158 fresh cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 24 hours, officials said Friday.

They said of these fresh cases, 132 were reported from Kashmir and 26 from Jammu division — taking the cumulative total of positive cases detected so far in Jammu and Kashmir to 3,33,825.

Moreover, 105 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals including 97 from Kashmir and eight from Jammu division in the past 24 hours, they said, adding that no new case of Mucormycosis (black fungus) has been reported today.

On vaccination, the daily media bulletin informed that 1,00,888 doses of COVID vaccine were administered in the last 24 hours bringing the cumulative number of doses administered so far across J&K to 1,56,47,124.

According to the bulletin, out of 3,33,825 positive cases recorded cumulatively so far,  currently there are 1,364 active positive cases across J&K, including 1,173 in Kashmir and 191 in Jammu division,  while as 3,28,013 persons have recovered and 4,448 have died including 2,270 in Kashmir and 2,178 in Jammu division.

Meanwhile  India logged 12,516 new coronavirus infections,  taking the country’s total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,44,14,186, while the active cases declined to 1,37,416, the lowest in 267 days, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.

The death toll climbed to 4,62,690 with 501 fresh fatalities, including 419 from Kerala, according to the data updated at 8 am.

Of the 419 deaths in Kerala, 47 were reported in the last few days and 372 were designated as Covid deaths after receiving appeals based on the new guidelines of the Centre and Supreme Court directions, a Kerala government release said on Thursday.

The daily rise in new coronavirus infections has been below 20,000 for 35 straight days and less than 50,000 daily new cases have been reported for 138 consecutive days now.

The active cases comprise 0.40  percent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.26 percent, the highest since March 2020, the ministry said.

A decrease of 1,140 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.07 percent. It has been less than two percent for last 39 days. The weekly positivity rate was also recorded at 1.10 percent. It has been below two percent for the last 49 days, according to the ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 3,38,14,080 while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.34 percent.

The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 110.79 crore.
