Kulgam: Two militants including a top Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) commander have been killed in an encounter on the second day in Chawalgam area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam on Friday.

A senior police officer told the news agency (KNO) that operation had started yesterday (Thursday) in which one militant was killed and was suspended due to darkness.

He said that police, army’s 9 RR and the CRPF cordoned off the suspected spot and offered surrender to the hiding militants. “The militants refused to surrender and instead fired at the forces. In the ensuing gunfight, one unidentified militant was killed,” the officer said.

“With the first light, the operation was resumed by the forces resulting the killing of second militant, while as the search operation is on in the area”, he said.

A top commander of Hizb is among the slain, however, further identification was not immediately known, he said.
