Mughal, & Bandipora-Gurez roads closed after fresh snowfall

Traffic movement restricted in Kupwara border areas

Srinagar: The historic Mughal Road connecting Poonch district of Jammu province with Shopian in south Kashmir has been closed for all kinds of vehicular traffic owing to fresh snowfall in upper reaches of Rajouri and Poonch districts.

Deputy SP Traffic, Rajouri Poonch, Aftab Shah said that snow has started to accumulate over the stretch especially near Pir Ki Gali adding vehicular traffic had been suspended on the road owing to slippery conditions.

Authorities on Friday also closed the Bandipora-Gurez Road for traffic after fresh snowfall in Gurez valley.

The snow on the Razdan top connecting the Gurez with Bandipora has forced the closure of the road due to slippery conditions.

Dawar, the central Tehsil of Gurez was receiving light to moderate snowfall while as Tualil was witnessing moderate snow when reports last came in.

SDM Gurez, Mudasir Ahmad confirmed that the road has been closed. It is for the third time that Bandipora-Gurez road has closed since October due to snowfall.

Meanwhile, in view of fresh snowfall and slippery road conditions in border and hilly areas, the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara has directed to restrict traffic movement from Kupwara to border areas including Keran, Karnah, Machil, Jumagund, Budnambal and Kumkadi, from both sides till weather improves.

The SSP Kupwara, SDM Karnah and Tehsildars of Karnah, Kralpora and Kupwara have been asked to take necessary action.
