Srinagar: The Jammu and National Conference Members of Parliament have impressed on the incumbent J&K administration to evolve a strategy to cope up with the forthcoming winter exigencies.

In a joint statement, Party MPs Muhammad Akbar Lone and Hasnain Masoodi have asked the LG administration to focus on stocking essentials in bulk ahead of coming harsh winter months and ensuing hassle-free commute on the only surface link that connects Kashmir with the rest of the country.

The duo demanded that a holistic review of all the stocks of essentials like rice, sugar, kerosene, LPG, wheat should be undertaken and any shortfall plugged before the onset of sub-zero temperatures.

The Party MPs asked the government to direct road clearance departments/wings that include SMC and R&B to remain on stand-by mode to meet any situation that may arise due to the early snowfall.

They also called for having electricity transformer repair units at district levels. They also sought transformer banks at each district level to meet the demand of replacing damaged ones with new ones. “Concerned repair centres should be directed to ensure replacement of damaged transformers with new ones within 9 hours,” they said.

They impressed on the administration to put emphasis on ensuring uninterrupted road connectivity and proper traffic management. “Zone wise snow clearance should be ensured and required men and machinery should be pooled at such zones across Kashmir division,” they added.
