Srinagar: Paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) along with the local police Friday carried out an aerial surveillance in Srinagar to prevent any untoward incident in and around the areas where minorities live.

The move, according to CRPF’s Deputy Inspector General (Operations), Mathew A John, was aimed at providing foolproof security to the minority community members in view of the recent target killings in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley.

“Director General of Police and Inspector General CRPF launched a drone surveillance grid in Srinagar to keep a close eye over the areas where minorities live. The move is aimed at providing foolproof security to the members of the minority communities in the wake of recent killings in Srinagar and other places,” said John while talking to reporters at the city centre Lal Chowk.

Around a half-a-dozen drones were pressed into service in Lal Chowk for surveillance to prevent any untoward incident.

John said that a joint security checkpoints of police and CRPF have been placed in Lal Chowk besides frisking of pedestrians is also being conducted on daily basis to ensure no untoward incident takes place.

He also said the new experiment (drone surveillance) would certainly help security agencies to keep a close eye on the elements targeting minorities.

“Well this is an all new experiment but we are hopeful that the trial would be result-oriented, rest let time decide the outcome of the experiment,” the officer added.
