LMD recovers fine of Rs 13.27 lacs from erring traders

Srinagar: The field officers of the Legal Metrology Department has recovered a fine of Rs. 13.27 lacs during intensive market checking inspections held across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir during the month of September.

During these inspections, a total of 4581 traders were inspected amongst which 448 traders were booked for violating the different provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009.

The inspection was conducted under the supervision of   Controller,  Legal Metrology, J&K, Majid K.A Drabu, who has strictly directed every field functionary of the department to ensure that interest of consumers is protected across the UT of J&K.

During the market checking inspections, traders were directed to adhere to the laws and to use only verified weighing and measuring instruments for commercial transactions. They were also directed to desist from sale of any Non-standard packages which are in contravention of the Legal Metrology Packaged Commodities Rules, 2011.

The consumers were also advised to check all the mandatory declarations on the packages like MRP, Date of Packing, Net Weight etc, before buying any such product and in case of any complaint, they were requested to lodge their complaints with the department.
