Jammu: Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) today organized an event ‘Improvement of Parade Junction’ with the idea of streamlining traffic and creating vibrant space for pedestrians at Parade intersection as part of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebrations.

Pedestrian-oriented streets not only are safer, improve air quality, and encourage physical activity, but also facilitate commercial and social activity.

Jammu Smart City is gradually making efforts to improve the quality of life for the citizens. Many people-oriented initiatives are being undertaken by Jammu Smart city Ltd and it has been working to improve its pedestrian and cycling environment by improving the intersections on the city’s busiest roads.

The basic idea behind the improvement of this junction was to make the road pedestrians friendly, thereby empowering pedestrians to have the first right on the road.

At this improved intersection, the parking of vehicles will be parallel to the roadside. To ensure that there is no traffic congestion on the road and the pedestrians have safe walk, everyone including the shopkeepers were appealed to park their vehicles at the identified slots only.

Further, to have systematic parking at this place, it is informed that Jammu Smart City Ltd will come up with IT-based parking through Mobile App. Once this is made operational, this model will be replicated at other intersections of Jammu city.

While speaking on the occasion, Mayor JMC, Chander Mohan Gupta congratulated JSCL for this initiative. He said ‘now this is our responsibility to keep this place free for walking with organized parking.’ Jammu city is moving towards becoming Smart City with many such initiatives.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, CEO JSCL Avny Lavasa said that the plan for this project was made in consultation with the traffic police department keeping three things in mind; Firstly to create free and safe space for pedestrians, secondly to organize parking for smooth flow of traffic and movement of pedestrians and thirdly involvement of stakeholders for making this a success.

She appealed to all the stakeholders to cooperate with traffic police for ensuring the hassle-free movement of pedestrians and traffic and to adopt the habit of walking to remain fit and healthy. Use of vehicles should be discouraged if not necessary, she added.

Pertinently, JSCL has organised a series of events as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations from October 01-03 2021 with the idea of showcasing the vibrancy of old Jammu city.

Among others, Councilor ward no 10 Anil Masoom; DC Jammu Anshul Garg; SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli; Addl CEO JSCL Hitesh Gupta; Team Leader Pushpinder and other senior officers of JSCL, JMC besides local residents were present.

On the occasion, RED FM 91.9 organised an awareness programme to educate local people to follow traffic rules, make Jammu Smart and vibrant.

Senior officials from 91.9 FM including Cluster Head J&K and Uttarakhand, Sidarath Arora, RJ Sarang, RJ Vasudha, RJ Roohi, Group Manager Sourabh Sethi and Group Head Shakher Banotra also attended the event.
