Srinagar: Scores of people who have been selected for the job of Panchayat Account Assistant Friday staged a protest here urging the Lieutenant Governor administration to ensure that they join the department as early as possible.

The aggrieved selectees, carrying placards in their hands reading “justice delayed is justice denied”, amid sloganeering appeared at Lal Chowk this afternoon to register their protest against the delay in their joining.

“The exams for Panchayat Account Assistants were held on November 10 last year; but despite qualifying exams and interviews we are yet to join the department,” Sameer Ahmad Shah, one of the selectees said.

He said the aim of holding a protest was to convey a message to the Lieutenant Governor to impress upon the authorities to ensure their joining as early as possible.

“We appeal to the administration to have pity on us as the undue delay is taking a heavy toll on our mental health while families also suffer. Our appeal to the LG is to impress upon the concerned authorities to make sure the selectees join the department at an earliest,” he added.
