Dronacharya Awardee Ismail Baig calls on Div Com

Jammu: Dronacharya Awardee Ismail Baig along with national Coach, Bilques Mir, today called upon Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Raghav Langer, to discuss the water sports-related activities in Jammu province.

The Dronacharya Awardee Ismail Baig and National Coach Bilques Mir apprised the Div Com about their recent visits to the Mansar, Suinsar Lakes and Ranjeet Sagar Reservoir. They informed that there is a lot of potential of water sports activities in the twin lakes and Rajit Sagar Reservoir at Basohil.

Pertinently, Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council is all set to establish a water sports centre at Basholi for starting water sports activities in the Ranjit Sagar Reservoir. The project has been approved under Prime Minister’s Development Program (PMDP). The Lieutenant Governor, during his visit to Basohli on August 19, 2021 laid e- Foundation of the water sports centre.

It was informed that the land has been identified for establishment of Water Sports centre at Basohil for which all required equipments have been procured by the J&K Sports Council.

On the directions of the office of the Lieutenant Governor, the work has been expedited on the project, the meeting was told.

The upcoming Water Sports Centre building would be fully equipped with all facilities including a gymnasium, dormitory for boys and girls, changing rooms, conference hall, auditorium, VIP Lounge, Medical Centre, Food Court etc. The water sports activities will be held under the guidance of an international coach. The boys and girls will be trained here for national and international-level water sports events.

After the establishment of the centre, it will become the most sought after place for holding national and international level water sports competitions.
