Srinagar: An exclusive Women’s Cycle Rally is being organized at Baramulla on Sep 12. The 65 Km cycle rally will start from Baramulla and end at the Line of Control (LoC) near Kaman Aman Setu Uri.

“This is for the first time that an exclusive women’s cycling event of this magnitude is being organized in Kashmir. “The rally organized by Indian Army in consult with J&K Cycling Association comes close on the heels of a similar event held on 13 August 21 which was a universal event open for all genders,” the press release said.

“In addition to providing an opportunity to younger generations to imbibe a culture of fitness and adventure, the rally is also expected to provide a fillip to tourism in remote corners of the state. Speaking on this occasion GOC Dagger Div spoke about the importance to enhance the tourism footprint in the valley in the areas that have limited access. This would allow locals from remote areas to benefit from tourist footfall and also encourage girls from the area to realise their dreams,” it said.

The press release further said: “A large number of women across the country have expressed their gratitude towards the Indian Army for organizing this unique event. Ms Preeti Maske, an ultra cyclist from Pune who recently became the first woman to complete the 6000 KM Golden Quadrilateral 24 days and 6 hours in her video message complimented the Indian Army for this unique women-specific cycle ride and shown her excitement to peddle in this untouched land. A young girl aged 16 years, Anush from Baramulla, who is participating in the event is so thrilled that she has started practising since the day the event was announced.”

“Speaking on the occasion, Tausif Raina, President Municipal Corporation, Baramulla expressed his gratitude and said that remote town of Baramulla would benefit from the increased tourist footfall and locals are enthusiastic about the idea,” it reads.

“Noted model-actor and sports enthusiast Milind Soman along with his wife Ankita Konwar will flag off the event and will be participating also,” it added.
