South Kashmir Sports Festival-2021 concludes at Batpora Stadium Shopian

Srinagar: The fortnight-long South Kashmir Sports Festival-2021 concluded today at Batpora Stadium Shopian, after a spectacular sports extravaganza involving various disciplines, including Cricket, Volley Ball, Kabbadi and Athletics, said a defence spokesperson.

“The Inter-District Sporting event had commenced on 17 August 2021 and was organised by Indian Army, as part of Swamim Vijay Varsh celebrations. The event saw the best of South Kashmir compete in various disciplines to earn a place in the finals here today at Batpora Stadium, Shopian,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson further said: “The pulsating final events in Athletics, Volley Ball and Kabbadi enthralled the large crowd of over 5000 people with some captivating moments of skill, grit and undeniable passion.” “The winners in various events are as follows; Pulwama Gymkhana won the Cricketing event, Kulgam were adjudged the winners in Kabaddi & Volleyball, Younish Shakeel of Kulgam won the gold medal in 100m dash, while Asif Dar from Pulwama won the gold in 200m and Team Pulwama won the gold in 4x100m relay,” the spokesperson said.

“To commemorate the Sporting event, a grand 110 feet National Flag was hoisted. A daring display of the indigenous Kashmiri Martial Arts “Sqay” was also given by the Shopian District Sqay team. Foot tapping music added to the sporting fervor,” he said.

“Lieutenant General DP Pandey, General Officer Commanding Chinar Corps attended the Concluding Ceremony. He was joined by Maj Gen Rashim Bali, GOC Victor Force, Vijay Kumar, IGP Kashmir, Deepak Ratan, IG (Ops) CRPF Kashmir and several other civil and military officials,” the spokesperson said.

“Speaking to the athletes, GOC Chinar Corps applauded the efforts of all sportspersons and encouraged them to give their best in future sporting events. He highlighted the importance of sports in all round development of youth. He also pointed out the abundance of natural sporting talent in Kashmir and exhorted them to actively pursue their interests in sports,” he added.
