Srinagar: National Conference (NC) on Thursday appealed to India and Pakistan to resolve the ‘vexed’ Kashmir issue in accordance with the United Nations resolutions.

The party also demanded that the special constitutional position of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Indian constitution be restored at the earliest so that the people of the erstwhile state heave a sigh of relief.

“We appeal to India and Pakistan to resolve the long-pending issue of Jammu and Kashmir through peaceful means in accordance with the United Nations charter.  Peace is possible when both the countries hold dialogue and find a lasting solution to this decades-old issue,” NC Additional General Secretary, Sheikh Mustafa Kamal told media.

He said the wrong policies of the BJP government have led to the loss of the largest democracy of the world and also to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Kamal said the present dispensation leaves no moment spared to appease anti-Muslim elements who he said are hell-bent on damaging the secular structure of the country.

The NC leader also said the notion is being given to the people of India that Jammu and Kashmir remained ‘underdeveloped’ due to the few families that BJP claims have looted it for seventy years.

“Had this been the case, then my late father would not have served twenty-five long years in incarceration. Their false narrative vis-à-vis Jammu and Kashmir to mislead the international community and the people of India would get BJP into trouble in due course,” added Kamal.

Kamal also said the rigid stance of New Delhi in addressing the genuine grievances of the people of Jammu and Kashmir has created a void in their hearts and minds.
