Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President and Member of Parliament from Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, on Monday said that the holy month of Muharram, which also marks the first month of Islamic calendar, gives the universal messages of peace, harmony, perseverance and piety to humankind

In his message at the very onset of the revered month of Muharram ul Haram, Dr Farooq said: “At the very onset of the holy month, which marks the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Aaali Mukam (AS), I urge the younger generation to learn from the incomparable qualities that were in the personality of Hazrat Imam Hussain (As). The month is of great historical importance as it was during this month that the grandson of Prophet of Islam (PBUH), Hazrat Imam Husain (AS) sacrificed his life, along with his family members and associates for the sake of the cardinal principles laid down by Holy messenger of Islam (PBUH).”

Meanwhile, Party General Secretary, Ali Muhammad Sagar, impressed upon the administration to ensure people, particularly the Shia inhabited areas, with all basic and effective public facilities. “The administration is duty bound to ensure steady water and electricity supply to people.  Concerned departments should also dole out extra quota of monthly sugar, rice, and wheat to the consumers as the demand for edibles see a manifold increase during the forthcoming holy month.”

“Health department and concerned municipal corporations and committees should gear up for providing free medical aid to the devotees. The roads leading to prominent shrines, Imam Bargahs should be properly lit up and cleaned. I have been receiving complaints that the major and minor arterials leading to shrines and Imam Barghahas are dotted with potholes. It is expected that the administration will carry out necessary repairs and patchworks forthwith to ensure smooth commute of devotees. I also impress upon the divisional and district authorities to set up stalls of pure drinking water on all the major and minor arterials for the devotees. Special contact numbers of district and divisional officers, departmental heads should be widely publicized to ensure that SOS calls are redressed,” he said.

Emphasizing on the need to have Covid-19 protocols in place, Sagar said that the due to the circumstances induced by the ongoing pandemic and imminent third wave, the administration should distribute free masks to the devotees and establish sanitizing facilities at all the routes leading to the shrines and Imambargahs.

Party‘s Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, MPs Muhammad Akbar Lone, and Hassnain Masoodi also impressed upon the divisional administration to ensure all basic and effective amenities and public services to people during the forthcoming holy month of Muharram ul Haraam.
